Focused on building early years literacy for marginalized communities, we were on the hunt for a comprehensive literacy intervention that could provide baseline assessments and post-programme reviews. I was drawn by MYReaders’ approach which blended phonics-based pedagogy with a contextualized narrative into their delivery tools. This was a perfect fit for the PPR community-based children and migrant children that we were serving.

Vanitha Samuel, the Education & Community Engagement Lead at New Life Community Society shares how our partnership has helped them support the children they serve, based at a PPR in Old Klang Road.

More information on how to start or fund Literacy Hub

  • How do I integrate the Literacy Hub programme in my school?

You can fill in the form above to register your interest. You can also look out for corporate partners who would like to sponsor your school. Alternatively, we can do this together.

  • Do you have Literacy Hubs in other states?

Yes, we do. We are currently supporting schools and communities in the Klang Valley, Penang, Perlis, Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah. We are constantly seeking to expand our programmes to more states in Malaysia.

  • Do you have Literacy Hubs in other communities?

Yes, we do! Click here to find out about other communities that we support.

  • How is the Literacy Hub conducted in schools?

In schools, the year-long programme is conducted using a one-to-one, mentor-mentee model with a cap of 20 mentees at a time slot of the school’s choosing. Our books are used in the programme. The reading sessions are facilitated by teachers whom we train. Usually, each reading session is about 45 minutes to an hour long, once a week.

  • Is the Literacy Hub programme free?

It is a paid programme. If your school or community is unable to fund it, we encourage you to look for sponsorship or grants and we are happy to do this with you.

  • Can any school run the programme?

Yes, any school, both primary and secondary, can run the programme as long as you have identified teachers, mentors and mentees. The success of the programme rests largely on the commitment shown by all parties so we highly recommend identifying the right candidates.

  • Are teachers supported to run the programme?

We train teachers and mentors on how to use the books and run the programme before the remedial reading programme begins. We also drop by to support the reading sessions from time to time.

  • Is there a teacher's guide?

Yes! We have spent time creating a step by step guide for setting up the programme. We also have training videos on our Youtube Channel ‘MYReaders Resources’ that can guide you to use our workbooks and storybooks. Here is the link to the videos.
