ADVOCATE FOR US

Amplify our Cause

There are two ways you can amplify in closing the gap between illiteracy and literacy. Become a literacy ambassador in your school or join our advocacy campaigns in communities.

Being a Literacy Ambassador

Literacy Ambassadors are young leaders who want to play a crucial role in the social movement to advocate for literacy in their schools.

There is always a need for Literacy Ambassadors to help advocate literacy in Malaysia and the wider region. Literacy affects all aspects of society, including our economy, education, politics, our welfare, and social justice. As long as there are communities which lack literacy, our society will not have equitable access to resources in order to pursue lives of dignity and agency. Much more needs to be done to bring about equity in literacy.

Advocacy Campaigns we've worked on

Our advocacy campaigns are to push awareness on the problem of illiteracy in Malaysia. MYReaders wants to create a movement where we collaborate with organisations who share similar goals. By recognizing the lack of awareness on illiteracy, we can create more sustainable solutions to ensure all children are able to read.

  • Read at Home

Our first Read At Home campaign which was held during the MCO period, impacted over 460 people from the communities and schools we serve. Learn more about this campaign here.

  • Read at Home: Gadis Chapter

Inspired by our first campaign, the Read At Home: Gadis Chapter is a one month collaborative literacy campaign with Taylor's Girl-Up in conjunction with National Literacy Month last September 2020. We featured influential leaders reading female empowerment themed books to children to inspire young girls in the community while increasing awareness about the literacy situation in Malaysia. Through this campaign, we hope to support more children on their journey to become literate. Learn more about this campaign here.

  • Collaboration with Project Quill from MISI Solidariti

A campaign we held last April 2021 where we unpacked illiteracy in Malaysia, its effect, and how you can be part of the solution. What does it feel like to be illiterate? What are factors that contribute towards literacy? Can't an illiterate person just help themselves become literate? These were the questions we answered in the 4-part series campaign. Learn more about this campaign here.

We invite more groups and organisations to join us in campaigning to raise public awareness about the persisting effects of illiteracy on society and push for solutions that need to happen.

Join our movement

Be a Literacy Ambassador or join our future advocacy campaigns. Our doors are always open for anyone who shares the same goal in closing the gap on illiteracy.

FAQs for Ambassadors

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
