MYReaders aims to help the many illiterate students in Malaysia and around the region learn to read using a structured, research-based programme. We work to empower teachers, parents and on-the-ground movers through providing training, toolkits and support to build sustainable literacy programs in their communities. Since 2015, we have impacted over 31,647 students, 92 parents, 777 teachers and 780 volunteers in Malaysia.

We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to develop agency, and that literacy is key in this process.

About our Internship

We are looking for interns to join us in this movement to eradicate illiteracy. Apart from possessing the right qualifications, we are looking for someone who shares our values in ensuring that the dignity of our communities are preserved while providing sustainable literacy solutions.

Interns are expected to be ready to occasionally support the organisation with additional tasks beyond the formal job description stated in the application. Being proactive in reaching out across job functions during this period of internship is a key value that we highly appreciate in this organisation. Above all, approach this internship with an open heart and mindset for learning!

We are looking for passionate, highly motivated individuals to work as our interns in order to expand our reach and impact more children’s lives.

What are the benefits of being an intern?

• Interns are allowed to learn from other functions to have a more comprehensive understanding of the mission and work of MYReaders.

• Interns are encouraged to bring their own skills, strengths, and experiences to start their very own project at MYReaders.

• Interns can use 20% of their monthly working hours for learning days where they will be allowed to take courses to develop skills related to their job scope.

• Interns have a remuneration of RM 50 per day and a monthly phone allowance of RM 100 monthly

Data Intern

  • Data Management

    • Assist in the collection, analysis and reporting for programme pre- and post-diagnostics data

    • Organise and maintain volunteer, student and parent databases

    • Assist in the screening of volunteers’ application and background checks

    • Maintain the programmes’ tracker

    • Assist in conducting, recording and analyzing surveys and interviews with school administrators, volunteers, teachers and students

    • Assist in collecting data and document programme updates for reporting purposes

    Operations and administration

    • Assist in daily operations and administration of MYReaders programmes; including the planning and execution of programmes

    • Assist in preparing programme reports

    • Assist in setting up online learning platforms

    • Support in training logistics

    Special projects

    • Support in establishing the databases and trackers for any ad hoc tasks.

    • Candidates must have completed/ are pursuing their tertiary education/have related work experience

    • Full-time interns (at least 3 months) are preferred

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.

    • Possesses good leadership skills, evidenced by prior involvement in extracurricular activities/volunteerism or activities related to social causes

Programme Associate

We are looking for passionate, highly motivated individuals for our Programme Associate in order to expand our reach & impact more children’s lives. 


  • 1.Programme Management (50%)

    Manage and facilitate programmes with volunteers/teachers and students

    Provide support and consultation to volunteers/teachers on the implementation of the programme

    Conduct pre- and post-diagnostics on student mentees

    Visit school/community programmes at least once a month to record observations and report data on the progress of programmes

    Provide guidance to volunteers/teachers and student mentors when necessary to ensure target students receive effective intervention

    Assist in resolving any arising issues related to programmes speedily

    Conduct and record surveys and interviews with school administrators, volunteers, teachers, student mentors and mentees

    Document programme updates in forms of photographs and captions to be sent to Marketing and Communications team

    Assist in preparing end-of-year report for each programme

    Report directly to the Programme Manager assigned to the specific schools/community

    2. Operations & Administration: (20%)

    Assist in daily operations and administrative duties

    Update book inventory according to invoice and donation records

    3. Stakeholder Engagement: (20%)

    Attend meetings with potential clients/sponsors/government agencies

    Prepare meeting minutes and any form of documentation

    Assist in preparing proposals and reports

    4. Other miscellaneous duties (10%)

    Assist in special projects - Student camps, administration of surveys etc

  • Candidate must possess at least Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in any field.

Programme Coordinator

We are looking for an experienced Programme Coordinator based in Kuching to implement our latest project in Sarawak.

  • Start & End Date: Feb/Mar 2024-Feb 2025

    Employment Type: Full time, 12-13 months contract

    Location: Sarawak

    Hours: 40 hours/week

    Compensation: RM4000/month, with EPF, SOCSO, EIS, RM100 phone allowance,RM125 insurance allowance and RM900 annual well-being benefit. Travel expenses are claimable.

    OVERVIEW

    MYReaders is partnering with Enuma, Inc. to implement Lab Literasi using Sekolah Enuma Malaysia in Sarawak to scale the impact in tackling current challenges in foundational literacy and numeracy education in the region.

    Sekolah Enuma Malaysia is a comprehensive learning application developed by Enuma, Inc. to help children build foundational skills in math, Bahasa Melayu and English. It contains thousands of engaging game-based learning activities, videos and books that are contextualized to Malaysian curriculum and culture. In 2022, it has successfully completed a pilot test involving 650 children from 3 regions (KL, Sarawak and Sabah) and has proven that it works in various contexts, contributing to a learning improvement of participants.

    PROJECT SUMMARY

    Project title: Lab Literasi

    Location : 3 - 4 locations in Sarawak (inclusive of Kuching, others are to be confirmed)

    Duration : 12-13 months (Feb/Mar 2024 - Feb 2025)

    Number of target : 10 schools/community centers benefiting 400-500 students in total

    Main objectives

    To positively impact the learning of students who need remedial support, backed by both quantitative and qualitative data

    To engage and train teachers to upskill them in embracing digital technologies and new pedagogical approaches

    To raise awareness in importance of foundational literacy skills among relevant stakeholders and gain their support

  • OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

    Coordinate the implementation of Lab Literasi to address literacy and numeracy with a scalable technology solution.

    ● Successful implementation of Lab Literasi project across 10 schools/communities reaching at 400-500 students over a period of 14 months

    ● Successful reporting and strong stakeholder satisfaction from program planning and implementation

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Coordination with schools/community centers:

    -Preparing each participating school by working with the appropriate school counterparts in various tasks including confirmation on learners’ name list and teachers who are involved, session scheduling among others.

    -Responding to questions related to the operational aspects of program implementation.

    Coordination of program implementation:

    -Directly manage and support implementation of sites in Sarawak.

    -Regular check-ins with teachers and school leadership to identify issues and mitigate problems.

    -Coordinate the collection of tech issues to be reported back to Enuma.

    -Coordinate the collection and archiving of user’s (teacher & learner) feedback and teacher’s observations.

    Device management:

    -Planning for set-up and distribution of tablet devices with the relevant software.

    -Coordinate with schools on storage and tablet management plan after schools receive the tablets.

    -Managing communication around tablet distribution.

    -Ensuring tablets are ready for implementation at each school.

    Training & Event planning:

    -Support with preparation of training materials, sourcing venues/vendors and other resources

    -Conduct training sessions on the use of the program, the learning management system, and facilitation of learning sessions via online and offline training sessions.

    -Being the Lead Trainer at the regional level

    Monitoring & Reporting:

    -Conduct monthly center visits during implementation period

    -Helping to analyse and summarize observation notes as needed, and helping to interpret log data in correlation with observation notes

    -Collect feedback from participants, vendors, and stakeholders post-programme.

    -Writing internal monthly reports & support with quarterly external reports

    -Support preparation of any marketing, PR, presentation materials for engaging partners and stakeholders

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

    Possess a driver’s license and is willing to drive 1-2 hours for school visits

    Proven experience in project coordination and facilitation

    Have experience working with or supporting schools or community programs

    Be technologically savvy, with experience working in edtech (preferred)

    Have experience with user testing, and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative results (preferred)

    Be fluent in Malay and English, as well as Bahasa Sarawak (preferred)

    Have access to Wi-Fi or internet, and a computer

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

    Ability to multitask and work under pressure.

    Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

    Proficiency in event planning software/tools is a plus
