Volunteers and students read together to close the literacy gap in a school where literacy and numeracy are serious issues. Extra classes using the MY Readers materials and story books are conducted on Saturdays from 10:00am to 12:00pm, where volunteers teach reading and maths to change the life trajectory of school children. The programme has impacted 113 students and 120 volunteers in 2015.

Using the mentor-mentee system, Project Read aims to help Form 1 students who read below Primary 1 level to become fluent readers. High-achieving Form 2 students mentor their juniors every Tuesday from 10:00am to 11:30am, where they run through MY Readers literacy modules, play sight word games and read books together. Each mentor is assigned to a mentee and works at their individual pace and learning style. After 24 weeks in the program, the average reading growth was 3 years, where word recognition on a standard 1 level passage improved to 95.6%, up from 38% at the start of the program.
