It also meets the Essential Reading Components through a 4-stage cycle:

1.1 Basic phonics

Students learn to recognise alphabet sounds through phonics and sight words. They begin building up their phonics and sight word bank while also learning to associate words with meaning through pictures. The module incorporates kinaesthetic and visual learning styles as students also have to trace out the letters while they recite them.

1.2 phonics (Blending)

Students build on their basic phonics understanding by learning to blend the letters together. They begin to combine sounds, practicing their blending in a short exercise before moving on to reading short books that include the blended words they learnt as well as sight words they know. It's really empowering for them as for many, this is the first time they have read a storybook, and the pictures and storyline serve to engage and establish meaning as they read.

Student learn to read fluently, with the right intonations, pauses and tone. They are building on their ability to read individual words to now read more naturally. Passages in the fluency module are longer and more complex to build up students' reading abilities towards independent reading.

The comprehension module focusses on the pinnacle of literacy, understanding what one is reading. The questions are based on storybooks as well and grow increasingly more difficult, starting from simple 'what', 'who', 'where' and 'when' questions and transitioning towards more complex 'why' and 'how' questions.
